Progress at Key Stage 3
When a student joins the College in Year 7, they are set onto a Flight Path in each
subject. This Flight Path indicates the minimum expected grade for each student
in that subject, at the end of Key Stage 4 if they continue to progress well.
Throughout Years 7 and 8, students are assessed at regular points. We then use this
information and ongoing teacher assessment to decide whether your child is:
B Working below their main Flight Path
and there are concerns
W Working towards their main Flight Path
and making progress
S Secure on their main Flight Path and
making good progress
E Exceeding their main Flight Path and
making excellent progress
Student progress is monitored closely
and intervention put in place if needed
to maximise progress.
Flight Paths may be adjusted during your
child’s time at Ivybridge Community
College as they are based on national
data sets and are updated periodically.
For the first assessment point in Year 7,
only an Effort Grade is awarded. This is
to enable students to settle in to College
life and for baseline information to be
captured.
