Culinary Perfection from Kyran

Year 7 student, Kyran Williamson, has spent his time away from head of Department:
College perfecting his culinary skills. Kyran started showing an
interest in cooking at an early age when he sat with his mum in
their kitchen in germany. Being in a military family, and with Asian
relatives, they have picked up recipes from many places and use
celebrations such as Independence Day, Thanksgiving and other
days to try out different recipes and ideas.
Kyran has an interest in cooking in such an in-depth way and has
gone from strength to strength in his cooking skills. he has already
decided he wants to pursue a career as a Chef in the Navy.
When asked what he enjoys most about cooking, Kyran
replied, “Spending time with my mum, it’s a way of
   decent bonding.”
Kyran’s mum said, “As a family we all sit together for our
meals, and Kyran knows people ‘eat with their eyes’ so
he works hard on presentation. I have so much
pleasure when I see Kyran in the kitchen. We cook
together and discuss how we could do different things. I
want him to achieve all his dreams and I will be with him
all the way to support him.”

8 Character Education

                     Student Impresses with BBC entry

Year 11 student, george Folland, has produced a fantastic original
composition during the lockdown to enter the BBC Young Composer 2020
                                              competition this summer.
In his track entitled Tumker Road you will hear his intention to create a musical
landscape that combines aspects of a film score like a large string section with
rhythmic elements from modern Pop and hip hop.
Speaking about the piece george said that he, “wanted to create something
that was rich with imagery, revolving around the busy traffic ambiance, manic
drums, and bass.” he also said that, “during lockdown, I have continued to
create new music whilst also making an effort to improve my music theory
knowledge. As well as this, I have been using the time to explore my local
area whilst experimenting with my dad's old 35mm camera."
Katya Padlyevs’ka, head of Music at the College said, “I am extremely proud of george’s achievements in
and out of College, he is a phenomenal bass guitar and guitar player and has performed in so many events
including the College’s latest Beauty and the Beast 2020 production. he has always been a model student to
his peers and younger students, with his kindness, impeccable manners, dedication, talent, calm and natural
ability to support and lead others as well as ability to contribute sophisticated answers and opinions succinctly.
Over the last two years I have also watched george’s compositional style evolve where he can now compose
freely as well as to a brief in a range of musical styles as would be expected from a professional and
well-rounded musician working within the Music Industry. I am absolutely delighted he is continuing with his
career aspirations in Music next year and have no doubt he will be successful on this path. I am also very
excited about hearing more from him and his wonderful music in the future!”

Reading Students Raise Money for Charity

holly Trafford, learning Resource Centre Assistant Coordinator, writes, “One of our
favourite charities is Read for good. They supply children in hospitals with great new
reading books and fantastic storytellers. A £50 donation will buy one trolley filled with
wonderful new reading materials for the children, which I’m sure you agree is needed
now more than ever.
This year we’re taking part in the ‘2.6 challenge’and our challenge is to read for 26
minutes straight, no distractions, and see how many pages you can read. Once you’ve read, please donate
using our fundraising page (below) and then nominate other people to do the same, either friends or family!

Amazingly, with the help of students and staff we've already raised £300, enough for six trolleys of books!
