Anti-Bullying Ambassador course

  On Tuesday, 26 March, students attended the Diana Award
  Anti-Bullying Ambassador Course. The seven students attended
  various workshops and took part in team building activities, working
  with students from other local schools and colleges. The enthusiastic
  leaders from the Diana Awards team asked staff and students to
  think about how we all communicate with one another, and to
  consider that the way we respond to others can have a negative or
  positive effect on an individual. Students also learnt about the
  different types of bullying an individual can experience and what
  types of support are available.
  The afternoon activities saw the Ivybridge Community College
  students busily discussing how they would like to promote
  Anti-Bullying at their College.
  At the College staff and students are keen to ensure that everyone
  feels safe and secure at all times and the work of the Anti-Bullying
  Ambassadors over the next few months will reinforce this message.
  “I really enjoyed my day on the course. It was so interesting to find new and fun ways to
  support other students in our College. I cannot wait to start with new
  projects and begin my exciting role as an Anti-Bullying Ambassador.”

2 News Students Participate in Reach Academy Activities

                                                   Students in the Year 7 Reach Academy have had a busy time engaging in
                                                   extra-curricular learning activities during the Autumn and Spring Terms.
                                                   The Academy was launched with an off-site activity day hosted by The Field
                                                   Studies Council at their Start Bay Centre in South Devon. This involved the
                                                   students working together to develop their teamwork and leadership skills
                                                   through completing problem solving challenges, a low ropes course and a
                                                   den building and survival skills challenge.
                                                   Following this the students undertook research into people that inspire them,
                                                   to find out how they represent the College values of Opportunity,
                                                   Endeavour, Excellence and Achievement. The students took inspiration from
                                                   a wide range of people including Harry Kane, David Attenborough,
  Emmeline Pankhust, Stephen Hawking and Mary Berry, producing
  some really interesting and high quality work.

  The Friday lunchtime Reach Academy programme at the College is
  currently being used to support students with their extended
  independent projects, and also to host ‘Wow Workshops’ where
  members of staff share inspirational stories or share their passion for
  their subject. The first Wow Workshop was well attended and students
  from the Reach Academy and other Year 7 students came to hear
  Mr Willow talk about his amazing cycle challenge across Europe.

  What challenge will you take on?

 Safer Internet Day

                              The theme of Safer Internet Day (SID) for 2019 was ‘Consent – understanding consent in a
                              digital world’. This was supported throughout the week by a series of assemblies to all
                              students from Year 7 to Year 11 inclusive, where the presentations were aimed at discussing
                              the key ideas of ‘asking’, ‘granting’ or ‘denying’ consent for any sharable digital content.
                              This was further developed across the whole College PSHE session; which was tailored for the
                              relevant Key Stages. Key Stage 3 focused upon digital consent and the students’ moral
                              compasses; and discussion in scenarios, for example, where consent should be asked for,
                              granted or denied. For the Sixth Form students there was an additional interview and
                              role-play activity which focused upon the data stored and/or shared online with regards a
                              potential employee and the consequences of their online actions.
