Blood Brothers - From Page to Stage
In April, Year 9 students, together with Mrs Hewish, Mrs Sheridan and Mrs Brown, were invited to attend the
Princess Theatre in Torquay, to see a production of the play ‘Blood Brothers’.
“The play was delightful and true to the text; we all felt very privileged to have witnessed such a fantastic
production. We were so engaged with this performance that many of us were in tears through the standing
ovation. With vibrant characters, engaging settings and catchy songs, students and staff alike were singing
the show’s songs on the coach home. The students were exemplary throughout the three and a half hour long
production; we were very proud of the way they conducted themselves on this trip. A definite highlight for the
Year 9 students, who have loved studying the play this year,” said Mrs Hewish.

Mathematics problem solving at Exeter
During the past few months a group of four Year 12 Ivybridge Community College Mathematics students,
namely Olivia Bull, Courtney Ormrod, Heath Marker and Oscar Hill, have been attending a weekly ‘problem
solving’ course at Exeter Maths School.
Olivia writes, “We all found the opportunity to challenge our understanding and further our knowledge of the
subject really rewarding. Each session covered a different aspect of mathematics, going beyond the A Level
syllabus, and we were given various
problems to work on, both individually
and as a group. Working on the
problems, which were based largely
around the mathematics entrance
exams for universities, gave us a really
helpful insight into the mindset
needed to study mathematics at a
higher level. We also found engaging
in discussions with students from other
schools very interesting as it allowed
us to see problems from different
perspectives. Overall the whole
group really enjoyed the experience.”
